Our projects: what a clean start did for a Marbella driveway
This project at a villa in Marbella shows why the wash comes first. The grey, stone-pattern imprinted concrete on the driveway, the carport under a reed-roofed pergola and the garage apron was faded and cracked, and nothing could be repaired or recoloured until the surface was properly clean.
What state was the surface in before cleaning?
The stamped concrete had lost its colour and its shine, and cracks ran across several areas. Under the carport and in front of the garage the surface looked dull and worn, the kind of wear an older imprinted driveway on the coast can show.

Why was pressure washing the first step?
Crack filler and new paint only bond properly to a clean, sound surface. We pressure washed the carport and driveway to remove dirt and loose material, so that the repairs and the colour would sit on the concrete itself rather than on a layer of grime.

Once the surface was clean, the cracks were easy to see and could be filled. The edges along the walls and posts were then cut in by brush before the first colour strips went down.
What did the finished driveway look like?
After washing, crack filling, edge cut-in and two coats of colour, the driveway, carport and garage apron finished in a dark, glossy and even tone, with the cracks no longer visible.

If your own driveway looks like the before picture, send us photos and the approximate area. We will tell you whether a clean is enough or whether it makes sense to go all the way to a recolour, and you can see the full sequence of photos in the gallery.
